KC Streets is a free tool run by one small operator, not a company with a data business. We don't sell your personal information. But we do use Google Analytics, we intend to show Google ads, and — importantly — the claim-letter generator saves what you type into it. That last one is the part most people wouldn't guess, so it gets its own section below. Read it before you use that page.
When you use the claim-letter generator and press Copy, Print / Save PDF, or Download .txt, the information you entered in the form is transmitted to private storage we control, along with a random claim ID and a timestamp. This happens in the background, and it happens every time you press one of those three buttons.
Depending on which fields you filled in, that can include: your name, phone number, email address, and home address; the location, date, and description of the incident; your vehicle's make, model, year, color, and current location; the name on the title; your insurance company and policy number; a police report number; the dollar amount you are claiming; and the names, phone numbers, and addresses of any witnesses you listed.
We do this to keep track of pothole claims being made against the City, and so we can retrieve your information for you if you ask. We do not sell it, publish it, or hand it to the City. It is stored in an encrypted, non-public location. But you should assume that anything you type into that form is retained by us — so if you would rather it weren't, simply don't press Copy, Print, or Download. The letter still renders on screen and you are free to select the text and copy it manually, or retype it. Merely typing into the form transmits nothing; only those three buttons do.
If you have already used the generator and want your saved claim deleted, email info@kcstreets.com with the approximate date and the name you used, and we'll remove it.
We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages get used. It sets cookies and collects the usual things: a randomly generated identifier for your browser, the pages you view, your approximate location derived from your IP address, and your device and browser type. We use it in aggregate — we are not trying to identify you personally, and we don't attempt to connect it to anything you typed into the claim form.
You can opt out across all sites with Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Google explains its own handling of this data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
This site uses Google AdSense to show ads, in order to cover hosting costs and keep the tool free. The AdSense script loads on every page, so its cookies may be set on your browser whether or not an ad is displayed on the page you are looking at.
Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of participating third-party vendors at aboutads.info/choices or optout.networkadvertising.org. Opting out doesn't remove ads; it makes them less relevant.
We do not control what any individual ad says or links to, and an ad appearing here is not an endorsement. In particular, be skeptical of ads from attorneys, claim mills, or repair services — we have no relationship with them and no ability to vet them.
The site is static: there is no KC Streets server that sees your searches. Your browser talks to these third parties directly, which means each of them receives your IP address and the query itself:
Photon (photon.komoot.io) and Nominatim (nominatim.openstreetmap.org) turn what you type into map coordinates. As you type in the address box, your partial query is sent to Photon to build the suggestions dropdown. OpenStreetMap serves the map tiles. data.kcmo.org (the City's open-data portal) receives the map coordinates you are looking at in order to return the 311 reports there.
If you press the locate button, your browser will ask your permission before sharing your precise location. We use it only to center the map, and we don't transmit or store it.
The site keeps a few small values in your browser's local storage, not on a server: whether you've visited before (so we only show you the About page once), and your saved filter selections on the lookup page. Clearing your browser data removes them.
This site is meant for adults dealing with vehicle damage and is not directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from them.
You can use the pothole lookup, Hall of Fame, and analytics pages without ever entering personal information. To limit what's collected: don't press Copy/Print/Download on the claim page, use the Google opt-outs linked above, block cookies for this site, or use your browser's private mode.
